I'm planning to apply for residency in January 2015 based on my common-law marriage. I have two children who live with their father in the US. I know I have to get medical exams for them too as non-accompanying dependents. My problem is that my ex-husband has no vacation time to take them (nearest doctor for this is a 2 hour drive) until at least March 2015. I also will not be able to travel to the US to take them before then. Can I go ahead and submit my application with a letter explaining that I will do the medical exams at a later date? Has anyone else had to do this? I really don't want to have to wait until spring to submit my application. I've been here since December 2013 and I'm ready to get my PR and move on with our lives! Thanks!

I don't know anyone in your situation so I can't say for sure, but I do know that missing some required documents can delay the application by several months, or they may return the whole application to you and ask you to resubmit with a complete application. Writing them a letter saying you will send your children's medicals later Might work, or might not. It's a risk.

Like Kayaker said it might work and it might not. There are a couple of people around here who waited on their personal medicals and were told to do get them done ASAP when they received their SA instead of having their whole app returned to them as incomplete, which was a possibility too.

Considering it will be medicals for non-accompanying dependants and not your own + your letter, you could get similar leniency. My husband and my stepchildren had an appointment with a panel doctor who was open on the weekends, which I didn't know about until I talked to the doc's office - have you called the doctor near your kids to ask about appointments and if they're open on the weekends?

Maybe someone else who was in a similar situation will be able to chime in, but I would say you just have to weigh the options. Send your app in January without the medicals and risk the outcome or wait 2 months and send it in March after you get the medicals.

One risk you have to consider is if they return the whole application to you and tell you to resubmit with a complete application, your police certificate might expire because it's valid for only 3 months.
