Hi folks,

I am in the process of filing for Canadian PR under FSW '14 under NOC: 2171. I have gone through the NOC list and it says that the requirement for NOC: 2171 usually is programmer.

But I do not have experience in programming although I have good knowledge of programming ( I know my knowledge wouldn't help for prerequisite )

I started career as Support Engineer and moved roles and I am currently working as Business Analyst. Overall I have 3.10 years of IT experience.

Will this significantly affect my application and do I have to worry about my different roles within these 3+ years ?

A business analyst is not the same thing as a systems analyst. If you have no programming experience, I think you're going to have a lot of challenges being accepted under NOC 2171.

Here are the official descriptions from Immigration Canada. In short, 2171 is for business analysts and 2174 for programmers. Do not hesitate do check out the official NOC documentation on the web. We have summarized it for SAP consultants but it also applies to other IT resources: mapleleafsap.wordpress.com/2014/07/31/the-noc-selection-guide/

information systems development plans, policies and procedures, and provide advice on a wide range of information systems issues.
Ex. Analyst business, Analyst informatics security, Business systems analyst, Business analyst computer systems, IT consultant, MIS analyst, MIS consultant

2174 - Computer programmers and interactive media developers: Computer programmers write, modify, integrate and test computer code for microcomputer and mainframe software applications, data processing applications, operating systems-level software and communications software. I think your good. 2171 is a consulting position who sits between client and developers. You don't have to do programs but have some idea on it. Its a senior level post in IT.

Hi Sania91,

If your experience is around application security (designing, implementing and maintaining user accesses), you can apply under NOC 2171.

Thank you for your response. My job includes security in every domain be it hardware, software/application, access controls(physical/logical), physical security, HR security. My job is to keep information secure at all levels. Is it enough to apply under NOC 2171?
