I plan to do short landing ... and return to Canada mid 2016, I'm from non visa exempt country.
Can I return without PR , crossing in a private car from USA with CoRP and local passport after Mar2016?
Thx

Rob_TO said:Yes crossing by private car across the border should always remain an option to PRs without PR card.
As far as I know the new eTA system is only for commercial travel (airplane, bus, etc)

abard123 said:Is the commercial vehicle rule also applicable to entering by land. My understanding was that no PRC required for any land entry but will be required for air/sea routes. I am from a non visa exempt country and will be travelling from the US to Canada on a rental car for the landing.
Rob_TO said:A rental car is still considered a private vehicle, so that is fine.
You would only have issues with commercial land transportation (like a greyhound bus) that you pay a fare to. They also can check PR cards/travel docs similar to how airlines do.
abard123 said:Thanks Rob. So if I take a bus from Buffalo to Toronto, I can't travel without PRC?
My issue is that 1 week after landing, I have to go to the US on a business trip for a couple of days and will only have my COPR because the PRC will take time.
abard123 said:Just rent a car to cross the border and you are fine. No PR card is necessary.
OK, so by that logic, I could get a cab/taxi to go from the Buffalo airport to the Canadian side of Niagra, and then take a train/bus/shuttle downtown To?
Rob_TO said:Yep that's fine too. You can also just walk across the border if you want.
