Hi everyone

Applied for on my mums and dads behalf for a visit visa - online via the CIC site.
Mum and dad live and work in Nigeria, however, Indian by nationality/passport.

Both of their application have no decision yet, and it been over 40 days now when processing time varied between 22-28 days. I have tried using the web form for contact IRCC but have not heard from them.

General details of application:
- Applied Online with current residence as Nigeria
- Nationality/Passport for both of them - Indian
- Financial documents showed - Indian Bank statements for both mum and dad + Tax assessment of the host family that we are meeting in Edmonton. In terms of finances shown - greater than 5k Canada each.
- Applied on 27 May 2018
- Passport details - currently hold valid UK/Schengen visas for more than a year.
- Expected travel dates to Canada 20 August 2018.

What does one do in such a situation as the travel dates are coming up soon?
Please advise.

Warm regards
H. Mattoo

1. What does the background check status state?

2. When did you send the web form?

There's plenty of time before their intended travel. They will most likely get decisions before that if there are no background checks/ if your parents don't work in critical areas or in research, etc

Thank you for your quick response.

1. What does the background check status state?
- "Not applicable." is stated and for every other heading, it's either Not needed or will be informed if this changes.

2. When did you send the web form?
- Been about 3-5 days roughly.

I'd like to even ask about my brother, in the UK as an international student. Its been over 5 weeks for him. I live with him and I got my visa decision in 4 weeks (we have similar documentation - finances/UK international students/Travel Itinerary). Any clue why this would happen?

It's too early to expect a response to a web form request or any action/updates. Responses could take up to 30 days.

Processing times are not the same because each application is unique.

It is possible the Lagos visa office and/or the London visa office has sought information from sources in India which could possibly delay processing (just a guess.... or maybe the delay is because of a high volume of applications). This is because none of you have permanent immigration status in the countries you have applied from

Hi there

In this case if we do allow more time. What happens if by end of July we don't hear anything? What does one do then?

Also does the Canadian embassy request for clarification or documents if need be or do I expect a decision?

It's best to cross the bridge when you get to it.

It's advisable to submit every possible evidence and explanation at the first shot because decisions depend on this paperwork. That said, the visa office may/may not request for any additional documents. Any request for additional documents will be notified through your online account.

An applicant can do nothing if the visa office has sought any information from third party sources

Your whole family seems to be accompanying you to start school in Canada. In general, international students are expected to be able to be able to come to Canada on their own. Your family may still get approved.
