Hi everyone,

I wonder if we can get a domestic SIN number right after completing the landing process or should we have to wait 72 days (current processing duration) for PR card to arrive on mail.

Did any get a new SIN number based on the landed COPR document?

Looking for some expert advises!

Best,
JK

Yes you can get new SIN number based on your signed COPR document. No need to wait for PR card to arrive.
Many people in this forum have done the same thing and got their SIN Successfully.

Thanks for the prompt response. Will I able to get right on the spot or is there some processing time?

In past, I've received the number on spot.

Much appreciated!

You will get it on the spot. These days they have removed the SIN in the card format , they are just issuing the paper format for the SIN. So it should be pretty quick and strait forward.

This is an informative thread, just out of curiosity, do you have to land to get new SIN, or you can do it after you get the passport back?

Hi Hichaman,

Based on my knowledge and friends experiences, you need to land first then can apply for a new SIN number.

I don't think Service Canada will issue a new number without seeing a proof of landing (COPR stamped or signed off) which will represent that you are now living in Canada as a PR not on a study permit or work permit.

I am hoping others will contribute their experiences as well so potential applicants can get some idea.

I hope you find this information helpful!

This query came to my mind when I visited the Service Canada office over the weekend and was told by a front associate that you cannot renew or apply for a new SIN number until you bring a PR card with you. I visited to collect this info.

However, recently one of my friends simple walked into a Service Canada office right after his landing and was giving a new SIN number based on his COPR document.

I just thought to get others input to clarify any confusion.

Until you do ur landing , u r NOT a PR. so u cannot get ur sin without landing and signed copr.
