New passport after getting PR

Hi seniors,
I just heard from one of my friend that after getting PR, my current Indian passport I'll no longer be valid. I'll be issued a new Canadian passport after landing.
This sounds little bit crazy to me, as I'm not a citizen yet.
Can you please through some light on the subject.

Your friend has no idea what he's talking about. You'll need to live in Canada for several years after becoming a PR before you will qualify for citizenship and a Canadian passport.
