hi
The last time I entered US from Canada, I was issued new i94 (new number and just around +10 days added from last i94's durationof stay). I realized this only recently. Not sure why the officer gave me new i94 even though my old i94 was still valid and no visa changes were done between these trips. I was in Canada for around 1.5 months.

I thought if you are entering from Canada, they wont issue new I 94s. What could be the reason they gave me new i 94.

I wanted to know if this is normal as I have to keep updating my attorney with new i94 info every time I travel to Canada.

Its normal but not usual. In your cases its as per the rule. Technically its a new admission to the US, irrelevant of number of days stayed hence they can issue new I94 for any trip.

Rule: After 30 days entry to Continental US(such as Canada, Mexico and some island nations), your status expires.
Practical implementation: Some officers issue new one and most dont.
My 2016 landing: I just went for one night to Canada and i was issued new I94(for full 3 years even though my I797 was valid for one year).
After few weeks I started commuting from windsor in Jan2017(while my visa was expired): Even though i had valid I94, they issued a new I94.
After 4 months of stay from Mar2020 to Jun2020: They did not issue new I94.
