I certainly hope so. About 70ish people have got ghost updates since 19th Feb.

You are saying "ghost update means the status improves to a more progressive state" which is absolutely correct.
Ottawa VO generally sends several GU's before ppr but historically NDVO only sends one or two gu's before ppr mail which makes ndvo's gu very important.

OK now I'm confused. So is my situation a ghost update or not? Because my background check has been sent BACK to the previous status.
Please see the chronology below-

BG Status 2 - We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.

BG Status 3 - Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start your background check.

So is BG status 3 a ghost update or not?

PS - I haven't seen any changes in my overall application status. It shows as 'Submitted' itself (or maybe I failed to notice since I came to know about this concept of ghost update fairly recently)

Only 3 ghost updates (2 for May and 1 for Aug) today. Seems like a dry day.

Let's see how do they finish rest of the day.

Just received a ghost update half an hour back. Application status changed to updated and then again back to submitted! AOR July 26.
