On first immigration entry you can bring in all you have and yes please always carry expensive stuff in hand carry. There are forms which you can download and fill them out ahead of time. Where to get those forms in another question even which i need an answer to.

There are so many forms on this link.

Bsf186 or B4 form is for personal effects and goods declaration form.

e677 form is for monetary declaration if you are having traveller cheque or dd or cash.

It is so hard to wait!! You should order notes, you will get them in a month and they contain everything the visa officer has noted down about your file. You might find out why they are making you wait. Good luck, hope you hear something soon.
