Hey really important question folks. My wife is flying to canada as she just received her PR and I wanted to know if it is a requirement that she buys health insurance? I have found some topics where people were saying in 2015 that they wont let you enter Canada without the health insurance? is that true?
Congrats on the PR. PR means shes entitled to all the things which the Canadians enjoy within the country except voting rights. Shes eligible for Canadian Health benefits once she lands via land, air or water boarders into Canada. But she will receive her card in the mail in about 90 days after she makes her landing. There is no law which will deny her entry because of not having Insurance at the time of landing. Please read more about it to be sure of your rights.
If you still like to buy her an insurance from India for the next few months, i would recommend you buy her a travel insurance for her flight + week and once she lands I am sure your company insurance will kick it till she receives her Provincial Health card. Please find out from your work. And if you don't work, Sunlife has some reasonable insurances to chose from for month to month coverage which you can only buy once the candidate is here.
