Nervous about my future - Recent immigrant, conditions help

Hi there

I'm a little worried about my future, ive been a Canadian resident for 9 months now and during this last week my Canadian partner says shes not convinced she wants to be in the relationship anymore and wants a break...which sucks. Relationship aside however, what does this mean for me?

I was under the impression that for my residency to stay intact I need to stay with her for a period of 2 years. However my COPR states i have no conditions

Brief run down of information:

In a relationship with her for 4.5 years, weve lived together for 3.5 years
Applied for a common law family class visa in March 2015
PR was recieved in January 2016

When i recieved my COPR, a letter was included stating that IRCC has determind that i am subject to the condtion of living together in a conjugal relationship for a period of 2 years and i will find that condition on my COPR. My COPR, under conditions it says the following, 00: NONE.

Does that mean i have an unconditional visa and the letter they sent out was a generic one informing me of what the condition was, if it was on my COPR? or does it mean there is a mistake on the COPR?

if your COPR does not have condition 51 written on it, then you don't have the condition. if you were commonlaw for 2 years prior to submitting the application, then condition 51 doesn't apply. without reading the letter you are referencing, it is hard to determine if that was a standard letter that is sent to applicants along with the CORP.

if condition 51 doesn't apply to you, your spouse can do whatever they want and your pr status will not be affected. you are free to live as a pr without them. at this point, the sponsor is the one running the bigger risk if they end the relationship, since they are financially responsible for you for 3 years after becoming pr. if you take any sort of welfare from canada, THEY would be responsible for paying it back, not you.

Sorry to hear about your situation. If it's not listed on your COPR, I would say it shouldn't be an issue.

My concern stemmed from the included letter as it was telling me conflicting information, it also had all my information on it like the UCI number etc.

Looks like a form letter that is generated in a batch. If your COPR does't have Condition 51 on it, then I wouldn't worry too much.

I cannot say I have heard of any cases where they even checked to make sure the couple was residing together.

this is part of the standard letter that EVERYONE gets. it is not suggesting that YOU have condition 51. it is explaining what condition 51 is and the "you" that is being referenced is anyone who falls into the categories listed on the sheet. take a closer look. this isn't specific to you. what's important is what is said on your COPR. if you COPR says no conditions, there are no conditions. ignore the standard letter.

at this point, the sponsor is the one that is at the most risk if the relationship fails. you are free to go on as you please.
