Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could guide me through the process of bringing my nephew to Canada.

His mother, my sister, recently passed away and his father is terminally ill and is incapable of taking care of the child. I have been supporting them for the past year. I have also recently become his legal guardian in the country he resides.

I looked into adopting him as my child but the country has blocked all adoptions indefinitely.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately there is no way for you to sponsor your nephew and bring him to Canada as a permanent resident as long as his father is still alive. It would be different if your newphew was an orphan (i.e. both parents deceased).

The only thing you can do at this time is apply to bring him to Canada on a study permit as an international student. You'll need to be prepared to pay around $15,000 in annual tuition to have him attend school here.
