My PR card expired in February. I submitted the renewal application and it was returned with a request for certified copy of my divorce certificate and driver's licence. I had the documents certified and resubmitted the application with all the paperwork. I have an airline ticket to fly to US for a family wedding in two weeks. I phoned CIC and they told me I most likely won't receive my PR card in time for this trip. I am a full time resident who has lived and worked here for 20 years and meet all residency requirements. If I travel and bring all my papers with me (expired PR card, record of landing, tax assessments, driver's licence, copy of my PR renewal application etc etc) will I be able to board the airline (Air Canada) back to Canada and be allowed back into the country. I travel on an Irish/EU passport.
I'm very glad this forum exists. Hope to hear from you soon

If you have an Irish passport, don't even mention to Air Canada that you are a PR. You are visa exempt and that is it. Once you get to the immigration desk, you can show them your documents instead.

Leon (or anyone else who can answer), I have an additional question that's causing me some anxiety.
It say on US immigration website that visitors from Canada to US need either a Canadian passport or VISA.. and to apply for a visa you need a PR card. Like I said, my PR application is sitting on some desk in Sydney. I have my Irish passport plus all my other docs that prove I live and work in Calgary full time. Can you answer.. will the US immigratin people turn me back when I get to the airport to fly to US? Hoping for a speedy reply

With an Irish passport, you are under the Visa Waiver Program and do not require visa to enter the US. At port of entry, you just have to show your passport and return tickets, and funds to cover your trip if they ask.
