Need tip for IELTS

Hello everyone. I just took IELTS last month.
I'm asian and I've lived in U.S. for 7 years.
My overall score was 6.5.
Since my point for skilled worker barely meets minimum points, my lawyer recommended me to retake test. Is there anybody who retake IELTS test and get better score?
I expected my speaking score was the lowest but in result I got it highest among all tests. I feel strange about result.
And since I live in U.S., it's hard to listen British English. It irritates me.
Is there any textbook or occasion I can improve my test score?

plz dont feel offended, if I tell you to be more grammatically correct while speaking...

you know..in US people often speak grammatically incorrect...while if yu take test from British Council, then you have to give more importance to the grammer part.

one more thing...try to make short sentences, making it less complex.

I understand your frustration in terms of U.S. vs British english. However, your lawyer is right. You should take the IELTS as soon as you can and try to do better.

Also, in terms of textbooks, try Barron's IELTS preparation material including its book. Barron's usually have the most up-to-date material which will really help you.

Hope this helps, and g'luck to you. People who take the IELTS twice do get a better score on the second try, so go for it.

Thank you everybody for response.
I bought Barron's book and took the test. It's much easier than actual test.
Practice on this website is much harder and more practical.
Anyway I'll do my best.

You can register on this site http://www.ielts-blog.com, they have lot of tips on the website and further they share all recent IELTS exam questions that was asked in different countries.

This was my best guide. I got 8.0 in my first attempt. Wish you good luck
