Please help create a movement to scrap current unfair PGP lottery system. I’m also logging a direct petition to House of Commons. It’s heart breaking to see this unfair practice and something needs to be done.

I need 3 other supports for this petition for it to be sent to MP and mass signatures endorsing this petition for it to be present at the HoC. If anyone is interested and willing for the initial 3 supporters, please reply to his and DM your full name and email. Im sure this can be addressed if we put forth a collective stance.

So what is your solution. The government can scrap the program at any time.

Sorry I'm not following what you are implying by "The government can scrap the program any time". The petition is to request consideration for eliminating the lottery system and caps and allow for fair eligibility criteria on case by case basis as with other pathways. What's your view on the current PGP program? There have been previous petitions submitted and endorsed, however, there werent any recent attention brought to this issue and need to resurface.

OK - got it. So the elimination of both the lottery and the caps.

That will land us back where we were around 10 years ago where processing times for parent sponsorship were 12+ years. I personally don't think there's any chance IRCC will go back to that. One of the reasons the caps were originally introduced (along with the FIFO selection process which pre-dated the lottery) was because people were so upset with the process as is. There was actually a petition through this forum back then to change the process to introduce caps / limits and increase the sponsorship criteria to improve processing times.

IMO you need to propose an approach that keeps the caps. But that's just my two cents.

This solution is nonsensical. We would be looking at the years long wait similar to the current US system.

What is fair eligibility criteria? Eliminate caps…no way. The program was a mess years ago and IRCC will not revert back. Staffing is an issue too at IRCC with the current program set-up.

My comment is that the government (or if a new government) could scrap the current program, get rid of it or reduce the numbers who are invited to a small number.

Value your opinion but beg to differ based on general views. If you have a sensible policy view or suggestion, that would actually help. Currently with 20k quota, the odds are next to none. We would rather wait in queue than waiting 10+ years of trying and no selection. Again, I respect your viewpoint.

Understood and fair point on caps but lottery system is a disaster. No other country has lottery system that I’m aware of.

And some countries just don’t allow sponsorship of parents what so ever .
Considering as mentioned the Government could just scrap the program. There are never any promises made when individuals choose to immigrate that they’d be able to bring ma & pa

It is what it is .

US has a diversity lottery. Canada allows sponsorship some countries don’t. What Canada needs to do is be more open and transparent to people immigrating that the chances of your parents being sponsored for PR is very low. Many people come here thinking they can land and sponsor their parents. They are under the impression it is guaranteed.

Canada has a supervisa program where parents can stay up to 10 years.

You are totally free to submit whatever you want.

It's just my opinion that IRCC will never return to the no cap system. But of course I'm not IRCC.

What we have now sucks and there has to be a better solution. But what was happening 10 years ago with no caps was worse.

Probably going on tangent but the diversity lottery in US is an immigration pathway for under migrating countries and not specific to family sponsorship so it’s not apples to apples. I don’t think this is about any promises or new immigrants coming in with any expectations. It’s about what it is and not working in favor either. Agree with @scylla current lottery system is no better.
