Hello everyone. So about a month ago we got an email requesting Police Check then after an updated Background form. I am wondering how long it takes to get Passport request after that. I contacted my citys MP to contact CIC on our behalf and CIC told them that they are in the very beginning stages and still evaluating our relationship, background checks, etc etc. They have had my application for over 6 months in Mexico City, with a total of 10 months since we first applied...from my understanding waiting for passport request is one of the last stages no?? Correct me if I am wrong?

Yes - passport request is typically the last stage. Although some visa offices can request the passport before they are ready to issue PR (I don't believe Mexico is one of those offices).

I think it may be a bit difficult to guess how long you might still be waiting since police checks are supposed to be provided with the original application. It does make sense that they are still at the start of processing your application since missing documents are typically requested earlier rather than later in processing.

There really isn't a standard time from when you provide the police checks to when you can expect the passport request since the police checks are supposed to be included at the start.

Our friend is in the process of sponsoring his mexican wife through the Mexico VO right now. They sent their application in September 2015, were asked for her Police Check in May 2016 and to this day still have not received a passport request.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but if their timeline is any indication, it looks like you still have a few more months of waiting ahead of you. I hope this helps

Thank you for your answer. Yeah I think the cases vary. A friend of mine got police check request and a month later they got passport request also with Mexico City VO...they also applied in September... all I can really do is wait and hope ours comes quick ..thanks again!

Just FYI - Scylla, police check for Mexico PA will not be submitted along with original package to Mississauga, since PGR ( Federal Police Certificate ) from Mexico is valid only for 30 days. And to apply, Mexico VO has to send official letter requesting for the same. PGR does not issue police certificates unless an official "request" letter is furnished.

Personally I would still send in the police check with the application. CIC may not request an updated PC and if they did you had nothing to lose. Would the Document checklist not serve as official request for the authorities if you showed it to them?

Nope, and you need letter from embassy. Document checklist will not serve as official request. Mexico shut down giving PGR certificate to people few years back without official letter. For a citizen, without official request, there is no way to get PGR as far as i know.Importantly PC is valid only for 30 calendar days from the time certificate was approved. My wife applied on 30th of last month. It was approved on 4rth of Oct. We got the documents from the goverment on 14th. We had to translate the document which took 3 days. And send it through expedited courier.
