Hello Members and Well Wishers

I need your help in applying to a Canadian University.

I have secured
10th: 80.1%
12th: 75.8%
B.E Electronics: 70.1% (Berhampur University, India)
7 years experience as Business Analyst with IBM out of which 2.5 years at USA.

I do not have a paper or research work published.
As far as i see most of the top universities of Canada looks specifically to academic achievement rather to professional one. And for sure, academically I don't have any achievements that would assure a Novel laureate within me to the school supervising committee :(. From what i see in LinkedIn most of the Grads(those from India) are from IITs ??? That kills the motivation within me that I have gathered for 7 years... to do a MS.
I was from a financial weaker section, and so my 7 years savings were spent to bring my family to a stability. Now that my savings is meager, Can any one please help in suggesting me an University in Canada, where I can pursue my dream.

And yes professionally I have excelled well. I have done around 8 professional certifications with Database Development experience and with lot of client and business appreciation. But I just cant help myself to stay within the border of the same work. And most specifically, the desire to do a Master Degree in computer Science or Information system...that kills me.

Course work option are self funded and can i have the option to work part time to earn my living while studying at Canada. Or can you please suggest some university where I can apply for Master with thesis.(Most of Unis are not asking for GRE scores, I saw that, , So Wats the take)

Any suggestion will be well appreciated. May God bless you. Have a wonderful day. :D

Would you not be able to apply for immigration under any of the available streams?

With your background and work experience, you should be looking immigration options first, and once you do immigrate, you can think about going for masters. that would make the most logical sense, to me atleast.

As far as getting into top canadian universities, it is very competetive if you are aiming for the top 'well known' universities, like the harvards and yales of Canada, if you will. there are definitely some other less known top universities in Canada. But by just glancing at your profile, i dont see why you would not get accepted.

Have you even tried applying to any of the schools?

P.S. business analysts are in high demand in australia. Maybe another option?

Thanks a lot for your time you spent on my query.

I inquired about immigration at a local consultancy here and they said, for Canada, the immigration rules have changed and they are not accepting any more applications for IT-Specialist/ Programmer roles. Only if i have some one in Canada, the process would be different and i might get a PR. But unfortunately i don't have anyone at Canada.

Now for Australia, i was horrified by the quote that the consultancy gave me. A whooping 4.5 lakhs INR (for PR) and that to... there was no ETA . SO it was like keeping the fingers crossed after draining all my savings. I am quite afraid on this take. To be honest, i am suffering from trust deficit after one of my colleague at IBM just blowed off his 2.5 lacs on an Australian PR dream because of a fraud consultant.

And yes, i have not applied to any schools at Canada yet, coz the application fees for all schools were at an average 100-120$, so I thought of getting advice on, which school I would apply to be on a safer side.

As i had mentioned i didn't have any Research or Academic papers or journal published to my name, would they even consider my profile! I wrote to the program counselor of all major universities of Canada stating the same. And almost all of them gave a same reply, your profile would be tallied with other students and then the decision would be made. But most, In fact all of the university asks for academic researchers.

So i am quite inquisitive, do you have idea on anyone who didn't have a paper published to his name but got selected to any of these good universities in Canada.

Thanks much Sir, for your time and advices.

Your profile is good enough to get into a MSc program. You can follow these steps to identify what you are looking for:

1. Browse through these list of universities:

2. Select the university of your choice(Research on the faculty, alumni, etc.)

3. Connect with the university department and discuss your research interest with the person of your choice(they can evaluate your profile).

4. Apply to the program.

You may want to consider McGill Univ., University of Toronto, McMaster, Univ. of BC, these are all highly reputed universities.
There are several other universities across Canada which have superb faculty and lower tuition fees as well.

If you have financial implications, you can try for PR as suggested by "just_do_it", as it will help reduce the cost of studies substantially and provide more freedom in terms of working while studying.

If research is what you aim at, you can look at other countries as well!! :)
Thank you sir, for your time.
I went through almost all the good countries(via google) on the pursuit of applying for MS program in Information Systems or Computer science.
I found out that Australia is meant for the creamy layer of society. 60 Lakhs INR for 2 years, for a MS at University of Melbourne. 30 Lakhs for University of Swinburne.
Even the bank needs proof that I must show them, i have got enough land or properties that I would not need a loan in first place.

And with lot of research, i found out that Canada is the country where i can feel home, while i excel in my career.

I have went thru almost all the universities Admission section on web. But my basic query was, DO any of these University accepts students who dont have research background....

And for PR part, I inquired and got disappointed by the change of Law... No more IT programmers (that wat the immigration consultant said me)..

Thanks Sir, for your kind and support advices.
