I would like to know why is one need a guarantor for applying for Canadian Passport once you get your citizenship? I don't understand the logic behind it. Someone please do explain.

A guarantor is simply confirming your identity that you who you say you are and your photo is actually you. It is a common feature in many countries to reduce fraudulent applications. Just being a citizen entitles you to apply for a passport but you still need to prove who you say you are when applying. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/passport/apply/guarantor-reference.asp
