Need help understanding terminolgy!

I just received a notification that my visitor visa has been approved for extension. However, I am not quite understanding the date of validity. Is that the date by which I need to leave? Or the date that my new visa extension begins?
The paperwork states 2020/08/09 and says if nothing is received within 6 weeks to contact them.

I suppose you mean your visitor extension aka visitor record. IRCC will mail you the visitor record, you should receive it usually within 2 weeks. On the visitor record there is a date by which you will have to leave the country.

Also, you can find this date in your application details if you applied yourself.

Thank you for the swift reply. All I have received is the automated reply that says It was approved. And on that letter it says date of validity is 2020/08/09. I am having trouble figuring out what that terminology actually means. I went looking through my application and am not seeing any other dates aside from when it was reviewed and when it was approved.

I am just trying to make sure I don't get into any trouble or if I need go ahead and make arrangements to leave the country.

That's odd. If that's the correct date, you will have to leave by then. But I think you can apply for another extension before that .
Keep in mind that if you leave Canada you may not be allowed to get back in while the travel restrictions are still in place.

So I did some more looking and I suppose on mobile not everything appears. It does in fact say that the expiration date is August 9, 2020... The border as I understand it is closed until the 21 for non essential travel. I guess I will just put in for another extension. I have asthma and do not feel comfortable traveling right now. I feel rather safe here in Nova Scotia.

So I did some more looking and I suppose on mobile not everything appears. It does in fact say that the expiration date is August 9, 2020... The border as I understand it is closed until the 21 for non essential travel. I guess I will just put in for another extension. I have asthma and do not feel comfortable traveling right now. I feel rather safe here in Nova Scotia.

Yeah, I would apply for another one if I were you.
