hello everyone,

In the generic application form,
for the section Dependant,
do i have to provide information about my family. I am principal applicant and right now I am only applying for myself.
in Instruction guide, it says under this section :
you must list all family members in your application for PR, whether they are accompanying you to canada or not. You must also prvide details on every family members whose location is unknown. If you don't , you will not be able to sponser family members at a later date if they are not listed on your application.

Yes, you should provide information about your father, mother for sure and then siblings, spouse & children if you have - even though you are only applying for yourself. If you don't mention, none of them will be able to immigrate to Canada as your relative.

Beasty.boy is right ..

SIGH. Please ignore the information above.

First- parents and siblings CANNOT be part of your application. In the instruction guide, CIC clearly defines "family members" (those who can be included as part of the application) as spouse (or common-law partner) and dependent children. Those are the people you list on the generic application form.

Second - not sure what you mean by "right now, I am only applying for myself." If you have a spouse or dependent child, then they must be identified under "dependents" whether accompanying you or not. You already read that, not sure how that is confusing:) If you have a spouse or child that you don't identify, and for some reason your application is not refused for misrepresentation, then you would NEVER be able to bring them to Canada (not just "for right now," but never).

You can apply with your spouse/child as non-accompanying, but they still need to be identified on the application, provide documents, go through the medical, etc, so there's not much benefit to that. You may as well just have them be part of the application.

The only place where you identify parents and siblings (and yes, they MUST be identified there) is on the Additional Family Information form.

;D ;D ;D this is for your big "SIGH" jes_ON

Not being a racist but the thing is, the term "family member" is defined differently in different cultures...In the western CIC perspective it means only your immediate family members in the nuclear family unit - spouse and children.

Please read the instruction carefully.
