Dear elite members,

I have been seeking for some help in order to see my chances for Canada PR . Can you please kind enough to advice .

I have done bachelor in Science(Zoology) and Master in Forensic from India which were full time courses. After that I have joined a hotel as an quality inspector and worked for nearly 3 years and now pursing my Phd in India for last 2 years (and might take a decade to complete , you need to be politician to do a Phd in India rather than a Scholar ) .

I have got my ECA done some time back and also IELTS (L:7.5 R:7.5 S:6 W:6.5) .

Whats are my chances if I apply for

2263 Inspectors in public and environmental health and occupational health and safety and I will get 5 points for my Husband Ielts (more than 4 bands)

Here are my queries

1) What are my chances if I apply ? (as my education was a bit different my job field)
2) there was a gap of 6 months (I was just preparing for exams so how I can show it)
3) Is there any benefit of my ongoing Phd ?
4) Is there any other relevant occupation as per my studies ?

Thanks very much in advance for your answers . Your answers will make a difference in my life.

Regards
Soni

Dear Soni
Your occupation is not capped. If you can get an application submitted by the end of this year, you have a very good chance. (To Look at the cap, go here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/complete-applications.asp)

How many points are you getting. If you do not know, please go here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp#eg72b You need at least 67 points. With your master's degree and good IELTS, I am guessing you are in (unless you lose points because you are too old)

I personally think the most important factor for you is getting a work reference letter showing you worked in NOC 2263 I cannot emphasize this enough, but this is the most important document. You need to have at least a year of work experience and it should match those given here: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=2263 Make sure the letter is from a supervisor, and it matches at least 80% of the duties but is not verbatim.

A gap/unemployment does not affect your points, so should not affect your application. A Phd, would not help, unless you really need the points.

According to http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=2263 your degree should be in "food science, environmental studies, chemistry or health and safety" - Is Zoology considered something similar? I'm sorry I have no clue. If not, then you are going to get rejected.

On the other hand if you can get some certifications relevant to your field, then you may have a chance to argue that you are qualified.

I think you need to meet the qualifications for the profession, for the CIC to consider the work experience. Just my understanding of what other's mentioned in this forum. As far as getting points for education, you are correct i.e. the education need not be related to the experience.

Re: Need help to Assess my Chance

Thanks All for your suggestion .

I am currently in the process of getting the experience letter from my last employer and expecting it by next week. I will be traveling hundred of miles just to get it . (The Hotel I was working in has been sold to someone else and I am getting a hard time to get it :( )

Can someone else please confirm if " I think you need to meet the qualifications for the profession, for the CIC to consider the work experience " ?

I will not send my application in case my education needs to be inline with my profession.

Finally If anyone has applied for "2263" , can someone suggest what should be general expectation from the Canada . The hotel I was working for was 3 Star property in Uttarakhand (A State in India) , will immigration authority considers the same ?

No, the education does not have the be in the same field as the work experience. The field of education becomes important only for professional work experiences like physicians, nurses etc.
