I have some questions that I want to ask on behalf of a friend of mine that I believe has/is being scammed.
These questions pertain to Immigration to Saskatchewan. I'm having a very hard time finding the most basic information; I have looked through the government sites and tried phoning consultants in my area(Vancouver) with very little luck
Background - Friend came here(Vancouver) to study. Attended 2 semesters while working ON CAMPUS ( special type of work permit I believe). Realized that it was going to take very long to potentially get Permanent Residence in B.C and so decided to go work in Saskatchewan hearing that the policies are much kinder/quicker. Got directed towards consultant. Consultant set this person up with a job in Saskatchewan. Person is now working under the table for the time being. Friend has been told that she/he will be getting a work permit in the next 4 weeks. Consultant is going to be paid $8,000 once the work permit is received (!!!!!!!!). Friend has yet to be paid and is working over 65 hours/week.
Detail that I have been told that I would like conformation for.
- must work 960 hours in Regina before applying for PR
- to get work permit you must show that you have a permanent job and the employer must sign a contract saying they will keep you employed.
- once you get PR you cannot change jobs...... to do so you must have some other type of work permit ( "unbounded").
- If this person were to study in Regina it could get an "unbounded" work permit after 6 months. Then after a combination of 8 months of school and 960 hours of work could apply for PR.
This consultant IS registered, I checked, and is obviously doing things that are illegal. Working under the table for a few weeks doesn't bother me at all but the $8,000 fee for what seems like very little work seems VERY strange.
Please help.
Sorry for the strange use of language - got to protect the parties involved.
