Let me describe my situation first . me and my husband were friends since 2012 back in our home country..we were just friends but not in a relationship . we barely used to talk or contact at that time . he came to canada in 2013 as a PR . and i came in 2016 january in canada as a intl. student .. and after that we got into a love relationship and then got married recently . so in the form should we mention the time period about our previous friendship as they asked how long we knew each other ? or just mention about the time after my arrival in canada because our relation started only when i came to canada . as we were just freinds so we dont have many proof for that . only we can give out college document to show we studied together . My question is what would be the safe option ?

Thanks

I think you should mention that you have been friends since 2012. It does ask how long you have known each other. In terms of proving that you were friends since then until you were in a relationship you could show you studies together and perhaps you were Facebook friends as well? I don't think it's really that important in the bigger picture. Just to prove that you are in a genuine and continuing relationship is the main thing you need to show. Hope that helps in some way.

My husband and I have known each other since 2002, though we didn't get into a romantic relationship until 2015. We didn't provide any proof of this friendship prior to the period our relationship began, but we did describe it and discuss how our relationship progressed over that period of time, because it was an important aspect of how we eventually came to be a couple. Though, if asked for proof, between the two of us we have chat logs and other things that would show an ongoing social relationship (Facebook friends, shared World of Warcraft guild, friends from our shared social circle who have known us for the same length of time as we've known each other).

yes i can show them that we were friends in facebook n all .. so then the date of first contact should be our first meeting in canada or i can give the date when we actually met in person in my college ?

We used the date that we first met back in 2002 as our first contact. For first meeting, we used the date we first met in person.

When you describe your relationship, say that you were friends first. You don't have to have a lot of proof of the friend stage - in any case, you do have some. The visa officer wants to see development in the relationship. Showing you were casual friends first, then became romantically involved, is actually a good thing.
Date of first contact is the first time you met each other, so the date when you met in your college (if that is when you first met).
