No you cannot get in the US on a Canadian visitor visa.
However, what you can do is flag-polling (just go through the border and come back)

i applied outland, and I'm not from Pakistan...my application is processing in Paris

If you don't mind me asking, what country are you from ?
Are you from a visa exempt country ?

No you cannot visit USA on Canadian Visitor Visa..If you are from Visa Exempt Country for USA then you can travel to US and then back to Canada...

This is want every one does when they dont have US Visa...Depending upon where you are living in Canada, travel to nearest US/Canada border and tell US Border Officer that you have land back in Canada as Permanent Resident and you will not be entering into USA.So he will guide you to a point on the bridge where you will be taking U-Turn back onto Canada Border Bridge. That way you it will be like you are travelling from USA and entering into Canada...Once you are with Canadian Officer tell him that you will be landing as PR and he will take care of the rest i.e paper work and all other stuff to make sure you land as PR.....Good luck..

what does "land" mean? i'm confused too! If your already in CA then what does it mean to land?

There are 2 ways to apply for PR: inland and outland.
Applying outland does *not* mean that you necessarily live outside Canada.

If you apply inland, the last step of the process is what is called the "landing interview". Once the application is complete, your local office contacts you and gives you a date. During the appointment (if everything goes well), they give you your confirmation of permanent residence (COPR) and you're considered "landed". You do not have to leave the country.

However, if you applied outland (but are already in Canada), you will receive the COPR by mail. You will then have to leave the country and re-enter in order to do your "landing" and validate your permanent residency

I like you frenchie :)

thank you so much, I'm from Algeria..I need a Visa to enter US but i thought i could just on Canadian visitor visa...I haven't heard from the VO yet until then we will see whats gonna happen, do you have any idea what to expect from Paris VO ?? thanks again :)

You can go to the border, tell the IO on the American side you do not wish to enter the US you want to Land in Canada, he will do 1 of 2 things... 1) just have you make a u-turn and send you back into Canada, 2) send you into US immigration and have you sign a paper saying you wish to withdraw your application (soon as you drive up to the booth you are considered to be applying to enter) to enter the US and send you back to Canada.

They won't let you board a plane without a visa to enter the US....
