Hi, I need some help on what path to take to get residency.

I'm currently living in Vancouver on an Open Work Permit with 6 months left of it. I am full-time employed as a Red Seal Electrician and have my Certificate of Qualification (red seal).

From what I understand I should enroll in EE under the Federal Skilled Trades Program?

At the moment I try to use the "Come to Canada" online tool to determine eligibility, but I fail as I have not done any language tests. Do I need to do the language test if English is my first language? I'm from Australia.

If it is mandatory, is there any way to start the application first? It looks like the next available exam isn't for a month and costs around $300!!

Thanks in advance I hope I can get PR before my work permit expires so I don't lose my job. ;)

Yes - you need to take an English language test. It's a mandatory requirement and you won't be able to apply for EE until you have completed the test and have the results. It doesn't matter where you are from or what your first language is.

Thanks for the replies!

Does anyone know roughly how long the whole application process takes? Would it be reasonable to assume I could have it done in 6 months or less?
