Hey everyone,

I need help/advice. I sponsored my 1st husband back in 2007 and we got separated a little bit after he came to Canada as it was a very toxic relationship. At that time I was on social assistance as I was pregnant with my second daughter and was about to give birth. he was never been in my social assistance. 5 years on and off until we finalized our divorce.
My questions here are how can I find out if through the times we were separated he took any assistance on his own. I have tried calling CIC abd the province of Ontario and no one seems to know. I have done my taxes religiously and never left Ontario. wouldn't the government have found me by now if I did owe money from a sponsorship?
Third question has to do with my current situation I am finally remarried and doing my sponsorship. Does it take longer for a second sponsorship to get approved as a sponsor?
I contacted CIC to ask them if there is anything wrong with my application and the lady on the phone said that there is nothing wrong and that they already did a preliminary check which came back positive. my last question is Positive a good thing or a bad thing.

Thanks in advance

The undertaking of your first sponsorship was only 3 years from 2007 - 2010. If you didn't get a bill for social services he may have used anytime in the past 8 years, I think it's safe to say he did not use any and you should be fine.

Your previous marriage/sponsorship shouldn't have any impact on your current one.

I have not taken welfare since 5 years ago and even then it was only for 2 months until my EI kicked in and it paid the welfare back before I received my EI. i have taken no EI since 2014 but I am on Rent to hear housing but I was told that it's not considered social assistance

There's a chance any social assistance taken in the past, may cause more investigation to ensure you are completely off it today. I don't know how far back they look.
I have no idea on any rent assistance you may receive.

If IRCC can't tell you the reason at this time, then unfortunately there isn't much you can do except wait for their response.

yea not sure but the lady at the IRCC said that the initial check is positive. I am hoping that is a good sign. she said there are no red flags or issues written on file
