My First query:
I would like to apply under Federal skilled worker under "Social worker'
I have worked with Oxfam Gb, Save the Children and now working with UNDP. I have worked in various positions like Programme Coordinator, Program Officer, Child Protection Coordinator but in none of my contract 'social worker' is mentioned. As I read in the required documents 'contract papers' are required. But in my job contracts and job titles 'social worker' is not mentioned.
What is your suggestions in regard to that?
I would like to mention that all the work experience mentioned in the NOC exactly matches with my responsibilities that I have performed in Oxfam, Save the Children and UNDP.

Thanks for your help

Elora,

Job duties are more important than the title. CIC and HRSDC are aware that titles might not reflect the actual duties and job one has. I think you did well by comparing yours to HRSDC NOC.

I recommend to go ahead.

Cheers!

Dear Elora,

Job responsibilities is main or vital factor. Do not think about your previous documents. Just prepare job certificate including job responsibilities, salary certificate and references letter accordingly by requesting your employers.

For the positions you mentioned, your NOC would be 4164... because it DOES show "social worker" under "Classified Elsewhere," you MAY have a chance if you have a degree in social work. If your degree is not in social work, I think it is unlikely that they will accept your experience as social work.

Hi,

Yes employment papers are required, but its absence can be substituted by other evidence like clients emails, employer appreciation letter/communications etc. In the end you can apply but your application should make your claims full proof that is what is required. The checklist is a basic and common framework which every visa office wants the applicants to follow but there can be exceptional cases.

Hello Elora,

Similar case as yours was discussed with other members. A member of this forum brought up a great input that would make your case valid, hopefully. Go thru the post below and my feedback with the link and OP6.

well I have correct you one thing If you read Op6 that
6. Definitions
6.1. National Occupation Classification (NOC)
The NOC is the official governmental classification system of occupations in the Canadian
economy. It describes duties, skills, aptitudes, and work settings for occupations in the Canadian
labour market.
Note: For the purposes of skilled worker applications, the ‖Employment Requirements‖ listed in the
description of each occupation are not applicable [refer to R80(3)].

Note: While the Regulations clearly place responsibility on applicants to undertake research of the NOC
and provide the NOC coding for the occupations in which they claim qualifying experience, officers are
expected to exercise discretion where applicants may have made minor errors or omissions in
correlating work experience and NOC coding.
 not take into account whether the applicant meets the ―Employment requirements‖ description
set forth in the NOC for the occupation(s) listed (R80(3));

you can apply as far your experience can be verified its ok.

I think Ali786leo opinion makes sence, you can try your luck, and use thus guide as a basis to support your case later if needed.

I think you get your degree assessed by the board in any state in Canada then get the SW assosiation to get you membership...once they think you are eligible dont think CIC will have an Issue with it...
