Hello everyone

I have an on campus job, I have the contract. But, the college officials are saying that you won't be paid unless you provide SIN number. Its my 5th month here, came back in september 2013. Can't apply for SIN for another 1.5 months. Is there any solution for this? There must be a way as international students do work on campus after coming here?

Hope someone helps, who have been here and got a job on campus before completion of 6 moths? Is there any other option where SINI can ask them for alternative way of payment or apply SIN before time?

Thanks.

I dont think you have to wait 6 months to get SIN number.
The rules are -
1. You have a job offer/ job to get a SIN
2. Or you have an off campus work permit - you have to wait 6 months if you do it with off campus work permit ( rule for this is changing as well).

Did you go to service canada with your job letter for SIN? did they say no to you?

Not able to get a clear idea. :-[

"Temporary residents

You must provide one of the following primary documents:

Work permit issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

Study permit issued by CIC and a contract of employment from the learning institution or employer on campus where you obtained authorization to study by CIC (this contract must show the start and end date of employment and these dates must fall within the study permit dates)."

No, I didnt go to service canada yet. Dont even know where their office is in Toronto. Got my contract today, with such condition. So thought this would be the most appropriate place to ask from the experienced people. Thanks for the information. I ll go to srvice canada on monday and see if they allow.
