Hi All,

I got my canadian citizenship in mid of 2015. I applied for my citizenship under old rules. I'm trying to get job in US. My questions are as follows

i) If i get job in US and move to US would I be in any trouble with my Canadian citizenship. Just wanted to make sure that I'm not under any legal obligation to be in Canada after I acquired my Canadian citizenship
ii) Do I need to pay taxes in Canada and US both. As per my understanding if I pay taxes in US i can show those tax returns to CRA
iii) Can I live in US for whole of my life or I need to come back to Canada. I will be Canadian citizen for whole of my life irrespective of where I live.

Hope to have my questions answered

1. No.
2. Depends if you are still considered a Tax resident in Canada.
3. Depends on how long the US allows you to stay. You don't lose your citizenship

Hi PMM

Thanks for the reply. If i stay in US for life long (green card) still I will have my Canadian Citizenship correct. I will only loose my canadian citizen if i myself renounce it. Correct

Naturalized Canadians cannot lose their citizenship, unless they renounce it themselves, are convicted of fraud in the obtainment of citizenship or the immigration status that led to citizenship, or are convicted of terrorism or other national security crimes. Everyone should know by now the Liberals have pledged to repeal that last part.....
