I really need some advice on reapplying for a study permit. I was declined a study permit a few weeks ago.
I'm a British national and I've been accepted by the Brampton campus of Medix School for the Medical / General Lab Assistant course. I've also secured a $20,000 line of credit at TD Canada trust, and I've saved the equivalent of around $5,000. The course runs for around 9 months and the fees are a little over $11,000; according to the requirements I should have enough but I was told that I hadn't provided enough proof of funds. That said, it might be something we've already been able to rectify as we transferred the line of credit balance into my standard account and took a screen shot of that for the purposes of proof for the purposes or reapplication (before we just showed the balance of my line of credit, which may have caused some confusion).
The other problem is with regards proof that I'll leave the country upon completion of my studies. I understand that this is a requirement for study, however I also understand that it's possible to get a work permit upon completion of my studies. I have a fiancé who is a Canadian citizen and I'm hoping that once I've completed my studies I can then work and apply for permanent residence. That said, given the rules regarding study permits, would I be better off writing my Study Plan as if I plan on leaving the country when I finish my studies anyway?
One further question, which I has come up since my permit was declined; as I work in a hospital currently, I was given a test for TB. It came back positive for the virus, however after further examination it appears that I have no evidence of active infection. I've started treatment for this so it shouldn't be a problem, but I understand I have to declare whether I have TB, I'm not sure; technically I don't actually have it, but yeah, it's a little confusing.
I'm currently awaiting some documentation, but as soon as it arrives I need to reapply for my permit; I've contacted the college again and they've sent out a letter for the new start date which is February 7th, 2011. All things being equal I should be able to get my permit turned around in time, but I need to apply as soon as possible.
Finally, I've been looking into getting some legal assistance with this, but of the places I've found they all start with something like $150 just for a phone consulation, and no real indication as to how much their assistance will actually cost in the long run, or what sort of guarantees I might have. Is it worth going through something like this in my case?
Thanks in advance.
