Hi everyone,
I’m a permanent resident currently living in Québec, and I could really use some guidance. I’m pregnant, and my husband lives abroad. His tourist visa was refused today because IRCC considered he had too many ties in Canada. I expected this outcome, but it still hit hard, especially as I’m about to give birth to our first child.
What makes this even more painful is that my husband never had any intention of settling in Canada. He only wanted to come for short visits to support me during the pregnancy, be present for the birth, and make occasional trips afterward while I worked on renewing my PR so that we could eventually have more travel flexibility as a family. Instead, this refusal now forces us to completely reorganize our lives for the next few years.
Since Québec has suspended new family sponsorship undertakings until June 2026, I can’t sponsor him through Québec. My plan is to submit an outland spousal sponsorship application and declare another province as the place where we intend to settle together.
I would really appreciate advice on which province you would recommend in terms of quality of life, family friendliness, ease of settling as newcomers, and a smoother immigration process. I am open to Ontario, Alberta, BC, or others. I simply want a stable and peaceful place to build my family.
My main question is: will it be an issue if I currently live in Québec while indicating another province as our intended province of residence for the sponsorship? I know this is legally allowed, but I would love to hear from people who have done it successfully.
In parallel, I plan to submit another TRV application for my husband, hoping he can at least be here for the birth, even though I know the chances are low given how little time is left. Thankfully, my mom will be here to support me.
Right now, I’m exhausted and emotionally drained. Sometimes I feel like giving up entirely, going back home, giving birth there, and living my life normally with my husband. This sponsorship plan is my final attempt before considering leaving Canada permanently.
I would really appreciate your advice and experiences.
Thank you for reading.
