Hi Willy

If you got married in Russia and she was listed with your name on the marriage certificate I believe that Russia makes you change your internal and international passports.

If she is still listed under her old name on the marriage certificate then you can stay with the maiden name.

So I'm Canadian sponsoring my husband to come to Canada. I want him to change his last name to his official family name and not keep his dad's name (i.e. Bob John Smith, instead of Bob John). What's the best way to change his name? Should I ask him to change it after he comes to Canada?

It will be prohibitively expensive for him to do it here in Canada.

No kidding. I stand corrected, (unless some provinces are expensive like Quebec, specifically which I could not care less about).
