I’m a transgender international student with a still-valid Study Permit as well as TRV.

I’d like to have my name and gender marker changed on all my documents in the near future. I will, of course, apply for these changes in my home country.

But then my current passport will become invalid, and my information on the Study Permit and the TRV will be no longer matching my passport.

Do I have to submit something and request for a new Study Permit as well as TRV right after I make the changes whilst still being in my home country?

Or can I re-enter Canada with both my new and old passports, as well as the TRV/SP with my birth name? (I will bring a copy of the supporting documents indicating my legal name/gender change with me when re-entering)

Thanks!

I believe you will need to apply for a new Study Permit and TRV after you've made the change. Once you've changed from John Smith to Anne Smith (or vice-versa), you can't use a visa issued to John Smith. You aren't John Smith anymore.

Not 100% sure, let's see what other people say.

You will have to apply for a fresh application once you get your passport changed to update your new details.

Do note that Canada does not have a separate identifier for people who want to identify as Transgender and not Male or Female.

If your home country allows you to have a separate transgender "T" , and if you chose to use it in your passport, you will have to chose M or F while applying for any Canadian document till they implement a "x" option.

Here is the source document I used. It has all the information you need.

Forgot to add, if you can get your details changed in your country's embassy in Canada, you can then apply for a new study permit and still continue under implied status without any disruption.
