My name is Andrei. My wife, our child and I currently reside in Spain, Catalonia. We have applied for Canadian permanent residence under the Ukraine Family Sponsorship stream program of 2024 (my wife’s sister is a Canadian resident) and completed our biometrics in March. We now await instructions to undergo our Immigration Medical Examination (IME).
Before booking the exam, I would be grateful for your guidance on the following points:
IME Location
Are we required—or simply permitted—to complete the panel physician medical exam in Canada rather than in Spain?
We understand there are accredited panel physicians in Barcelona. Would obtaining the IME in Canada genuinely accelerate IRCC processing, or is that a misconception?
Post-IME Processing Time
Once the IME results are submitted, what is the typical timeframe for IRCC to finalize PR under this program? We have heard it can be as little as one month—does that align with your experience?

Getting the medical done in Canada does not speed up the process. This is a myth.

The medical is generally requested earlier on in the application process so you should expect there may still be quite a wait before you have a final decision.
