Dear forum,

I'm currently studying in Canada. Last year when I extended my student visa, they let me stay until August 2016, but my study permit said "this does not authorize re-entry." What does this mean? I'm planning to visit my family next summer (I haven't seen them for 5 years), but I'm scared that I won't be able to come back. What should I do? Can anyone help me please?

study permit and TRV(visa) r two separate things. visa is a document that lets u enter the country and study permit lets u stay legally in the country.there r different permits like study work visitors etc. so as long as u have a valid visa and a valid study permit u should be ok to travel and come back. I am assuming ur still enrolled and studying .

like i said study permit does not authorize u to enter however it authorizes u to live in canada where as visa lets u enter canada. so if ur visa has expired and u just have a valid study permit u cannot use it to enter canada (with I think an exception of US not sure). but if ur visa is valid and u enter canada they will give u some kind of permit at POE like visitors study work etc depending on the reason ur entering canada.
