Hi Guys,

My wife is sponsoring me but she is unemployed and I wanted to know if this will be a problem for her trying to sponsor me. After meeting me in 2009 she has not worked and I gladly foot the bill with my IT company that I have owned since 2004 in the Turks and Caicos Islands. I pay the rent, day to day expenses, vacations etc..

We have a child together who is Canadian born and 4 years old and we are expecting another one in August of this year :)

I don't need to work in Canada even though I know it is available by default to me if approved. I am applying mostly because I want my non Canadian daughter who is 10 to be able to go to school here and get her health card if she is ever ill GOD FORBID.

Being unemployed is not an obstacle to sponsoring you. As long as she is NOT receiving social assistance in any form, she is fine. She may have to provide documentation on how she can support you and your children. Having a company letter explaining that you are supporting her through your company will alleviate CIC's concern. CIC will and may want proof that your wife and yourself won't go on social assistance during the financial obligation period.

I'm unemployed too, I'm the sponsor for husband and son. I gave up my career when our son was born. I showed our savings account statements and investments, along with a printout of all my husbands direct deposits into our joint checking account. I was approved as a sponsor with no issues. So I have no doubts there will be an issue with you and your family. Good luck!

BTW, I'm curious, are there tax benefits to having a company in Turks and Caicos? My husband has a startup, which is taking off. Right now they run it as an LLC, but they're considering basing the company out of Canada, to benefit from the 15% corp tax rate.

Hi there. Oh heavens yes. To tell you the truth there are almost as much Canadians living in Turks and caicos as they are locals :)

We use the US dollars and all of my it clients are Canadian or us business owners. And there are tons of Canadian lawyers that have practises that setup and form companies for people so they can see ALL of their money to say the least :)

Let's put it this way nothing but the hotels are taxed in turks. No income tax, no property, no nothing tax :)

Just one more testimonial: my wife is unemployed and under student loan.
Our application is on final stage with no issues.
We sent a letter attached to our application stating she will start working soon and also a letter from her parents saying they will help us in whatever we need.

A question. Eventhough my wife is unemployed are we still supposed to send the Option C printout along with printout of all income slips??

Yes.
AFAIK, only Quebec applicants don't send option-C
