Hello everyone,

I am in a situation where I do not really know what to do and wanted to ask for any opinions possible.

My situation is this: Me and my mother applied for citizenship in May 2012 and received RQ in Oct 2013. The thing is that my relationship with my mother had deteriorated by then so I requested that my file be separated from my mother. I did so by calling CIC and sending them a registered mail. Then in June 2014 we were both called for test and interview but on the same day and at the same time. I missed the test but with a good reason and they accepted it and rescheduled me for mid-Jan, 2015.

I just found out my mother also received a notice to appear for interview, guess when, at the same time!!!
She already went for her interview (she is over 54 so did not need to write the test). Is it normal to be called for another interview? Her English is more than enough so this mustn't be an issue.

It's as if this government is purposefully ignoring my right to privacy. My request was very simple- as an adult who was able to apply for citizenship on her own, I wished for my file to be processed separately from my mother's because we were no longer in speaking terms due to family issues. I requested numerous times. I do not understand why this government is insisting on us being interviewed together.

My question is: Do you guys think we will be interviewed together in the same room? I have to write a test but she does not.

Also is it normal to be called for a second interview? What might be the reason?

Please, if anyone has any ideas please share with me.. I feel frustrated..

Based on what we have seen here, once a citizenship application filed jointly receives RQ, they will continue to process the application jointly and it's too late to separate the application. If you want your processing to be handled separately, then at this point I think your only option would be to withdraw your application and refile as an individual.

I don't know if they will interview the two of you together. Are you sure that you have been called for an interview? It sounds like you have been called to write the test and your mother has been called for a second interview.

This is the excerpts from the letter my mother and I both received:

FINAL NOTICE TO APPEAR - TO WRITE A CITIZENSHIP TEST AND FOR VERIFICATION OF IDENTITY/DOCUMENTS

You are receiving this notice because our records indicate that we have previously invited you to write your citizenshp test about your knowledge of Canada and of the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship and that you did not attend. Our records also indicate that you have not contacted Citizenship and Immigration Canada(CIC) to provide an explanation for not appearing to write your citizenship test, as was requested in the previous invitation. This is your final notice with a new date and time to appear for a test.

First, my mother is over 55 years of age so does not need to write the test. She already went to her interview. This letter applies only to me, not to her. Do you think CIC mistakenly sent her a letter as well because we are in same file?

Second, is it normal to be called for a second interview? What might be the reason?

Third, if CIC indeed called my mother for a second interview and we both have to go together, how will this unfold? Will we be interviewed together and after only I remain to write the test?
I am sure many of you applied with your parents so went to the interview together where only you guys under 55 wrote the test.. How did this work exactly? Please advise please :(

I know the only way to know exactly is to call CIC directly but they're closed now and I really need some piece of mind :(

The test is for you and the interview is for both of you together.
Im sorry for not releifing you but this is the fact.
Do call CIC on early monday to invistigate more about this. If you can visit them, it will be a better option to shade more lights on this matter.

Best of luck!
