My previous company that I worked for shut down

Hello,
I took the employment reference letter from my employer in 2020 and due to covid they mentioned that they are in the process of liquidating during that time and have completely shut down by the end of 2020.
I have secured my employment reference letter in the early 2020. Can I still apply with that? Do I need to provide a letter of explanation?

please help me.
