My PR card is expiring and i want to leave the country

Hello,
My PR card is expiring in December2021 and I want to go to India in the next few months, Can i apply for renewal and leave the country? The PR card would come by mail and then I can ask my friend to courier it to me? Will my current PR card become invalid if new one is issued?

Sure - you can apply for renewal and leave. Yes - your friend can courier it to you. Yes - your current PR card will become invalid once the new one is issued.

Would only travel if you are prepared to remain for many months. Depending on your case you can be asked to pick up your card in person. You still have the PRTD option.
