My PR card expired at five year reneal point. Can I be let back into Canada?

My paper work for renewal has been in processing since September. This would be my third round for renewal since coming to Canada since 2001. If I crossed the border into the states with my Expired PR cars, would Canada Border protection prevent me from coming back?

I may miss out with Christmas with my family in the states if I do not get my renewal card in time.

You should be able to cross the land border in a private/rented car with an expired PR card.

If you meet the criteria it would be best to apply for Canadian Citizenship.
