I just entered Canada on my approved work permit as and Australian for 24 months, however, when i got the border the immigration officer said he could only issue it for 12 months not 24 months as thats what his notes said on my visa approval (which he showed me)
Im wondering why they would only give me 12 months and not the 24 months like everyone else. Could it be an error, he said i need to contact cic and get clarification on it but i dont know who to call. Uprooting my life for 24 months to only 12 is a big difference.

Why would they not tell me it was only for 12 months and not 24?

Its stressing me out as I planned my life for the next 2 years and only to find out at the boarder that it was 12 months.

Any help of advise would be super appreciated

Thanks

Did you have travel insurance for 24 months, is this your first participation ?

See here for how to apply for a correction, it is a paper application, takes about 4 months and costs.

See here in another forum similar case for a UK person who got 12 months in error

The Travel Insurance has no baring on the reason, he didnt even ask to see any supporting documents.
this is my second one as i fall under the old rules where Aussies were entitled to three 24 month visas this was to be my final one. I have about 4 other friends that have done the program their 3 times and never had an issue with time length of visa, only mine
