My girlfriend is a foreign student on a student visa . Does her status change if she married a Canadian during her studies?

To whom it concern.

My girlfriend is studying at Algonquin college on a student visa. She is wondering if her status would change if she married a Canadian guy while she was on her Student Visa and living in Canada. Would her status change regarding her permanent resident application? OR Would she receive the benefits of being married for her education fee being lowered? OR Does she stay on her Student Visa as an foreign student till she completes her schooling and get a permanent job?

She would like to know what her option would be and the best course of action to take. She really would like to live here in Canada and have a family after her studies and become a Canadian citizen one day.

Canadian citizens or permanent residents can sponsor their common-law partners or spouses to become permanent residents of Canada.
The process takes 12 months on average.

Before becoming legal permanent residents, spouses are still required to hold valid student visas to study, and work permits to work, like every other foreigner. Once the spouse becomes a permanent resident, only then are they eligible to pay domestic student tuition fees.

No change just because you get married. You would have to apply to sponsor her for PR, or she would work for a year after graduation on a PGWP and apply for PR through the Canadian Experience Class.
