my friend's sponsored wife has died

Hello all,
My friend sponsored his wife to Canada. She had got passport request but unfortunately died after that. Does anyone know what my friend should do with his spousal sponsor application?

That's super sad. My condolences.

I would assume to contact CIC and let them know. Hopefully, they would give more instructions. If there were dependents involved, I would wait for somebody with similar experience.
