Hello Members,

I am currently living/working in Canada on a NAFTA work permit. I plan to immigrate permanently to stay in BC with my common-law Canadian partner.

I am currently in the Express Entry pool and would prefer to get PR this way due to application processing time but the uncertainty of the selection process has me worried. Is there anything wrong with also submitting an application under the family class sponsorship program? I can't find any information from CIC specifying multiple simultaneous applications.

Thank you for your help!

Hi

You can submit applications under different immigration streams. Note that you will have to pay separate fees for each.

Given the fact that you won't know when you will receive an ITA, nor how long it will actually take to process your app once you do (regardless of what CIC is saying right now, there is no guarantee apps will be processed that quick), I suggest you submit an outland sponsorship app as soon as you can get it together.
