My immigration case got recently approved. I have been asked to go to Canadian embassy in Sirilanka to stamp the visa and move by July of this year. I am currently working in UAE. I have few questions :

1. When I land Canada I have to apply for PR right ?
2. What is usually the validity of the PR (i mean how many years).
3. How long it takes to get the PR as I am planning to go for one month, get PR and come back. Will this all be done in one month ?
4. How frequently I am required to enter Canada . Is there any rule to for example to enter Canada within 6 months from last exit for example ?
5. I heard that one has to be in Canada for 730 days in a period of 5 years for citizionship. Is it true ?

Your response will be highly appreciated,

1) No - you don't have to apply for the PR card. The application will be submitted automatically.
2) 5 years
3) No - you won't have the card within one month. It currently takes approximately 2 months to process.
4) You must live in Canada for 2 years out of every 5 years to maintain your PR status.
5) No - this is incorrect. To qualify for citizenship you must live in Canada for 3 years (1095 days) out of a 4 year period.

Dear scylla thanks a lot for the response was really helpful.

So it mean that I leave Canada for 2 months till I get PR card or does it work this way that application will be submitted and I can get the card even if I am out of Canada ?

Can it work this way that my father stays there and me and my siblings we go back for some months and come back and my father may receive our PRs ? What you suggest on this issue. Thanks

One more thing does all these rules apply to family members as well as in my case the main applicant is my father. Does all this apply me as well ?

These rules apply to everyone - not just the primary applicant.

I'm not sure I understand the rest of your questions. You can leave Canada before your PR card is issued. If you have family / friends in Canada, they can send the PR card to you once it's received. If for any reason your PR card isn't received (sometimes there are issues with the photos), then you will need to apply for a travel document to return to Canada.

Thanks. and how to check the status of the PR ?
Are you asking about the PR card? You'll need to be more specific. If you are asking about the PR card then there is no way to check status.

If your father is staying in Canada, as long as you give his address, all the PR cards will be mailed to him and he can mail them or send by courier to you where you are.

You need to make sure as a PR to keep good records of your travel, address and work history because you will be asked for that info when you apply to renew your PR card or if you apply for citizenship. You should keep expired passports and best also to keep the boarding cards and tickets from your flights.
