Hi,

I am almost completing my 6 years in USA and my consulting firm has agreed to transfer me to Canada on ICT WV. i am confused a lot on the Canada visa process and the implications on spouse visa and PR. I just want to make an informed decision of moving to Canada and make it right. My situation is as below

I am working for a client in US who also has office in Montreal. My consulting company has office in Toronto and Montreal. Client is OK if i work from Toronto location. I also want to base myself in Toronto as it will help for my wife to get job and Express Entry is also easier.

However, i do not know if its allowed. Am not sure if there is any requirement for companies to not hire contract workers having closed work permits for Ontario. Can i get a work permit for both locations (as my consulting firm has locations at both places). what is the impact on Insurance?

What would be the best way forward?

Are you in a senior of specialty skilled role? Not everyone gets approved for ICT. If you qualify you should apply for PR not ICT. You need a score above 450/460 these days. Assume you mean health insurance? There are actually residency rules specifically for healthcare so if you are constantly travelling around you could end up not qualifying in either province.

i do not have sufficient points for PR.. mainly because of age. I would need the Canadian experience.

even if i am not traveling around, if i stay in Toronto, working remotely for Quebec client is ok? Are there any specific laws that prevent my client to employ a contract worker with a ict of Toronto province?

So what is the position you are being transferred to? What are your specialized skills? It isn’t meant as a means for you to move to Canada. There has to be some value you are providing? You Won’t be able to just transfer if it isn’t a senior position within the company.

getting an ICT visa approved is a separate debate altogether. But before that, i need to know if i need to put Quebec or Toronto as the work address and if there is anything that prevents a client in Quebec bot to hire a contingent worker from Ontario on their payroll.

Yes a Quebec client can hire someone in Ontario. It will also be dependent on your consulting firm whether they want you to settle in Montreal if your primary client is in Montreal.
