Dear All,

I have completed WES assessment and ready to create EE profile but I am stuck with a doubt. I am married and planning to add spouse as dependent. But once PR/PNP is approved, I heard that we need to travel to canada and stay there for few weeks to get the PR card. Is this true ? If yes, what are the timelines for that ?

My wife is conceived and time of receiving PR and baby delivery might be in same month. In this case, my wife can not travel for a couple of months.

Please provide your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

You need to arrive in Canada within the validity of your landing document plus have you taken into account that if the baby arrives after either you have submitted your application or been approved for PR but not landed your circumstances will have changed with an extra dependent that was not included on your application ?

As for PR card you could in theory arrive complete your PR landing and leave the same day you do not need to wait for the PR card. As long as you are able to provide a Canadian address for your PR card to be mailed to someone reliable you know who can send to you in your home country else without it you will need a travel document to return to Canada. Alternatively without a Canadian address you could get a PR card on your return but would still need a travel document to fly back without a PR card.

If your wife is pregnant, she won't be able to complete the medical. She needs to complete the medical in order for you to get PR (even if she's non-accompanying). So the short answer to your question is that you won't get PPR until after you wife has given birth and is able to complete the medical - and after you've added your new baby to the application.

Thank you so much Scylla.. one more doubt in general, not related to mine, what will be the case if applicant's spouse conceive after Medicals ?

Thank you so much for your response.. as per my estimation, PR approval comes first, and baby arrives in another 2 months to that.. any further suggestions plz ?

Hi Scylla,

What will be the case, if I mention that I am married but applying PR only for me (I mean spouse is not coming with me to Canada). ? Can I get her a PR once I move to Canada ?
