Hi,
I moved from the US to Montreal with a work permit. I entered Canada on Sep 16 (where I got my work permit) but I did not know I have to fill out B4/BSF186 and tick "Goods to Follow: Yes".
My lease in California ended Oct 7. I flew back on Oct 2 to Oct 8 to clean up the US home, sell remaining stuff and put everything into a UBox.
Since my plans were pretty vague at the time when I reserved and planned the move, I shipped the U-Box to New York State, close to the Montreal border with the ontention to pick it up some time later, at my convenience (either with cars or truck rental). Now I just booked a truck for next weekend.
Now I wanted to fill out BSF186 where I got stuck with the definition of "Settler" and it seems I should have filled this BSF186 on my first arrival (Sep 16). I would have never thought of this at that point ...
Without that, technically, I am not a settler and will be treated as a normal person crossing the border with all my stuff ... potentially being taxed on everything (and having to wait and long hassles until they look through everything, determine the value etc).
Maybe I am taking this too seriously but I AM seriously concerned now.
What would be the best approach forward now?
- Is there any office in Montreal I could go and talk to?
- Any number where I could get help/advice?
- Fill out B4/BSF186 now, ticking the settler box and hope everything will work out? :-O
Thanks for all advice!
