For plumbers considering Toronto or the GTA, I’m curious about your experience with a few things:

• How difficult was it to transition your previous plumbing experience to the Canadian market?
• Did you need additional licensing, certification, apprenticeship hours, or other qualifications?
• How did you find your first plumbing-related job after arriving in Canada?
• For those already working in the GTA, what types of plumbing work are most common — residential, commercial, emergency plumbing, drain work, sewer work, etc.?
• What advice would you give an internationally trained plumber who wants to build a career in the Toronto area?

Toronto and the surrounding GTA have a large residential and commercial property market, so plumbing services cover everything from routine repairs and drain cleaning to emergency plumbing, sewer repairs and replacements, and other maintenance work.

I’d be especially interested in hearing from plumbers who have already gone through the process of establishing themselves in Canada.

What was the biggest challenge for you when you started working in the Canadian plumbing industry?
For context, I’m connected with a GTA-based plumbing company, Plumbing & Drain Today, so I’m particularly interested in hearing from internationally trained plumbers and newcomers about their experiences with the Canadian plumbing industry.
