Not sure of the right sub forum to put this in, so feel free to move if there is a better fit. I have decided on moving to Point Roberts, WA, which some of you may be aware needs to be accessed by road by crossing the border into Canada and then crossing by road back into the US to reach Point Roberts. I will have my vehicle registered with WA plates and I have a Nexus card to make the crossings much easier for when I do need to drive into the mainland USA.

I have chosen Point Roberts to be close to my partner who is in Vancouver. We intend to visit each other frequently, with me spending as much time as legally possible visiting her in Canada until we decide on next steps.
My question is, I can't find any concrete information on steps to take to move my belongings to Point Roberts by road. I won't plan to bring any firearms since I don't want to go through that process, but I do have a Uhaul full of furniture and some personal belongings I would want to drive up there. The realtor told me that it's as easy as just having a manifest, but somehow I don't think that's the case. Anyone with verifiable information on how I go about this? Last thing I want is to get trouble at the Border.

Thanks in advance..

My wife and I just moved to Point Roberts from Bellingham last October and we also have Nexus cards. Using a U-haul to make the move was easy. We had a complete manifest of what we carried. If you have a box of clothing you do not need to list each piece. Just list it as a box of clothing (we listed our plates, cups, knives, forks, pots and pans as kitchenware). Label the boxes and try to pack them neatly in the back of the truck to make any inspection they may want to do easier . We went through the regular lines with the U-haul just encase they wanted to make an inspection so we would not be tying up the Nexus lane. Make sure you have your rental agreement for the U-haul. When you come to the border crossing tell them you are moving to Point Roberts, you have your personal belongs in the U-haul and your going to be driving straight through to Point Roberts. Offer them the manifest (it makes the jobs of those working for the Canadian Border Services Agency much easier). I would not carry a firearm, liquor or other restricted items to make your life easier. The most important thing is to be totally honest with the CBSA agents and the US Border Patrol agents. The only time we were inspected was when we went to return the empty U-haul to Bellingham when the US Border Patrol wanted to look in the back of the truck.
